Field Sampling at Iller River Demonstration Site

Our iNNO SED project partners at the Technical University of Munich have made a brilliant start to their data collection efforts along the Iller River Demonstration Site, by completing their first field sampling campaign. Working with a team of 7 over 7 days, they have successfully gathered crucial data that will be used to assess the effectiveness of sediment management measures implemented from 2016 to 2019, and to understand how they’ve evolved over time. It will also help our partners at TUM to develop 2-D hydromorphological models for future analysis.

Hungarian General Directorate of Water Management
February was all about sediment management and waterway development at the Hungarian General Directorate of Water Management (OVF)
At the Hungarian Hydrological Society’s committee session on February 13th, experts gathered to discuss sediment transport, dredging impacts, low water level changes, and riverbed morphology. Our iNNO SED coordinator, Sándor Baranya (Budapest University of Technology and Economics), delivered a presentation highlighting the crucial role of sediment dynamics in sustainable river management and showcasing how the iNNO SED project will contribute to innovative solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Following on from this event, at the FAIRway Danube II workshop on February 26th, Sándor introduced the iNNO SED and Danube Sediment Q2 projects, addressing key questions such as how sediment management can support waterway development and what interventions are needed for Hungary’s navigation routes.
Danube and Black Sea Lighthouse Newsletter
The winter edition of the Danube and Black Sea Lighthouse Newsletter is now live!
iNNO SED joined this quarterly issue in January to promote the launch of the project and to share its overall aims and objectives for the next 4.5 years. Along with the iNNO SED launch, this issue brings exciting updates and event highlights for the Danube and Black Sea region and showcases activities from actions funded under this Mission Lighthouse.
This newsletter is coordinated by EcoDaLLi and is delivered unde the Danube & Black Sea Lighthouse communications network which is currentlycomprised of seven projects: EcoDaLLi as coordination and support Action (CSA) and six Innovation Actions (IAs) including: DANUBE4all, DALIA, DaWetRest, iNNO SED, Restore4Life, SUNDANSE and DANSER projects, helping to strengthen our shared mission.

iNNO SED at the DANSER Project Kick-Off
We would like to thank Albert Scrieciu (GeoEcoMar) for presenting the iNNO SED Project at the DANSER (DANube SEdiment Restoration) project kick-off meeting in Bucharest! Albert is not only a scientific researcher and partner on the iNNO SED project but he also participates in the EcoDaLLi, DANUBE4all, and Restore4Life projects, helping to strengthen our shared mission.
DANSER is one of the latest initiatives to be launched under the Danube Lighthouse, and seeks to:
Restore sediment balance,
Improve sediment flow and quality,
Characterise pollution transport mechanisms, and
Integrate such actions and knowledge with EU and worldwide counterparts while still sustaining local and regional economies.
The project is in the early stages of its initiation, but you can learn more by clicking here! We wish our sister-project all the very best in the coming years and look forward to hearing more about their success!
